Carol Alexander India 2018

Onward and Upward

19.04.2019

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

As you know I had to stay home from India for a while because my cancer returned. I will try and bring you all up to date, as best I can with my “chemo brain” (as they call it..LOL!), this will be short, just like my energy level these days.

My theme these days is "onward and upward" in other words...just keep pressing on, even if it's just from my bed to my living room chair...LOL! When undergoing chemo treatments it's best to keep your spirits high and the expectations upon yourself manageable. It can be frustrating not to be able to do the simple things I used to do, like walking from the car into church or going out to dinner with the family. So many friends have helped me in this regard. I am so grateful for all the prayers and support I have received from so many people locally and from around the world.

I have received lots of questions about how things are going. I have just finished my first three months of chemo. This was the heavy-duty dose I received every three weeks for three months. It was exhausting and many days I had no energy at all. The good news is, it shrunk my tumor a lot!!

In fact my Doctor was so happy with my progress he lowered the dose on my next round of chemo. I now go every Wednesday for the next 10 weeks. I will then get to rest for 4 weeks before I have a mastectomy. I still have a way to go, but I am looking forward to being healthy again by the end of the year.

March was busy, my daughter Kristen came from Texas for a visit. This gave Lori and Mike a chance to get away for a few days of rest. Then my lifelong friend Sandi came from GA. We had not seen each other in about 8 years, so we had a lot of catching up to do. After she left, a few days later, my friend Bashu from Seattle came by for a quick visit. We met In India at a youth conference we both spoke at. It was awesome to have all of those visits in-between chemo! So thankful they came and were willing to just sit and talk. Most of the time my energy was very low and all I could do was sit in my chair and enjoy their company.

Life has been busy in India as well. Yes, I stay in touch with everyone there on a regular basis. It is great to be able to talk, email and message almost every day. Great things are happening at Grace English School.

We have a full school and children on a waiting list who would like to come.

We hired two new teachers for this school year, and they are doing a great job.

Our big news is our Chapel/ All-purpose building is almost done. We are so excited to see the progress. We are also adding a new girls and boys bathrooms to accommodate all the students.

One of the big questions my daughter Lori and I get asked is; will I be returning to India? The answer to that is YES!!!! Just as soon as I get an OK from my Doctor I will head back. I can’t wait!!! I know God still has plans and work for me to do there.

PRAISES:

1. God is showing me so much about trusting him even when I don’t know what the next step looks like.

2. God has put some interesting people in my life each time I go for my chemo treatment. I have had opportunities to share my faith with some as we share our journeys with each other.

3. I have been blessed with people coming along side me, some coming and sitting with me while I have my infusions, which take several hours at a time.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. That my tumor will continue to shrink and maybe even be gone by the time I have surgery.

2. That my white blood count will stay up. I am also a little anemic, so I need that to improve.

3. That I will stay aware of the people God wants me to share his love with as I interact with other patients and staff.

4. My support has dropped quite a bit.  I am running about $400 a month behind right now. I still have needs here at home and in India and I am trusting God to supply my every need.

I praise God for each of you who has prayed, given to my support and are walking this journey with me. It means so very much to me to know I am not in this alone.
